Santa Monica, CA, February 17, 2011 | SHOOT Publicity Wire | --- Nonfiction Unlimited, a commercial production company working with an exclusive roster of award-winning documentary filmmakers for commercials and other advertising projects, and Academy Award-winning documentary director Jessica Yu brings Mike Rowe home to visit his parents in a new spot for Viva paper towels for ad agency Tris3ct, Chicago.
In "Pig Pen Comes Home" Rowe, best known for getting grubby in his role as the host of The Discovery Network's Dirty Jobs, playfully drags his dirty self back home where his real life mom and dad are left to clean up the mess with the help of Viva. We hear, "When Mike Rowe comes home, his parents know what to expect." as his mom sees him coming up the walk and she tells her husband "Hon, Mike's coming. Let's get cracking," as they both grab rolls of Viva towels. As Rowe walks through the house leaving footprints on the carpet, fingerprints on the piano keys and dirt in his wake, it's all cleaned up with Viva.
Though director Yu is known for her serious feature documentaries like "Breathing Lessons," for which she won an Oscar, and Sundance film "The Protagonist," this comedic work for Viva taps into Yu's love of light hearted work as seen in her short film "Sour Death Balls," feature "Ping Pong Playa" and other commercial projects.
"Doesn't everyone who watches Dirty Jobs want to know what Mike Rowe's parents are like?" said Yu. "Seeing him with his real folks was a kick, and it makes the spot fun to watch on a couple of levels."
